Queen es una banda que ha explotado en popularidad en los últimos años, y ahora, hasta la Casa de moneda de Gran Bretaña.
Las monedas se emitirán como un homenaje a los cuatro músicos de Queen, y representan cada uno de sus instrumentos. y sus respectivas contribuciones a la banda.
En el centro de la moneda está el logotipo de la banda, con el micrófono de Freddie Mercury. También habrá de Brian May y su guitarra Special II, el piano de Freddie Mercury, el bajo de John Deacon y la batería de Roger Taylor.
La Casa Real de Moneda, señaló que Queen es "una de las bandas de rock más emblemáticas de todos los tiempos”, y que de esta manera inaugura una serie de monedas dedicadas a las leyendas de la música, informó un comunicado.
El comunicado también describe el legado de la banda. "Formados en Londres durante el inicio de los años ’70, Queen redefinió la música al mezclar el rock pesado con el pop".
El guitarrista de la banda, el legendario Brian May, señaló en un comunicado que "Es realmente un momento en el que piensas ‘¿quién podría haber imaginado tal cosa?’. Cuando empezamos, incluso el primer peldaño de la escalera de la fama parecía inalcanzable", comentó. Añadió también que "Tener nuestra banda y nuestra música reconocida de esta manera es muy conmovedor y un verdadero honor".
Las monedas de colección tendrán estos valores: 13 libras (13 mil pesos) por una moneda de cinco libras, hasta 2.020 libras (cerca de 2 millones de pesos) por la moneda de oro de cien libras.
